Fulbright New Zealand offers a range of exchange awards for New Zealanders and Americans wanting to study, research, teach or present their work in each other’s country. The Fulbright programme of international educational exchange was an initiative of American Senator J. William Fulbright from Arkansas, who in the aftermath of World War II believed that mutual understanding between different countries and cultures was crucial to ensure a peaceful future for the world.

By nomination: The Nominator is to be the Chief/Main Supervisor and must be a current NZARE member. The nominee must be a current NZARE member. Thesis nominated must have been undertaken in New Zealand within a New Zealand tertiary institution and be focused on a New Zealand educational context or contexts.
The New Zealand Association for Research in Education offers three Awards:
- Lyn Foote Award for Student Research in Early Childhood Education – who has completed a high-quality masters or doctoral thesis.
- McKenzie Award – NZARE member’s significant contribution to educational research and to NZARE over an extended period of time.
- Rae Munro Award – recognises a master’s thesis in an area that has implications for New Zealand teacher education or classroom practice.
- Ranginui Walker Te Reo Māori Doctoral Award – awarded for a doctoral thesis in the Māori language.
- Sutton-Smith Doctoral Award – recognises a doctoral thesis in the field of education research.
- Te Tohu Pae Tawhiti Award – recognises researchers who have made a significant contribution to Maori education by conducting research over an extended period of time.

The late Philip Neill was a medical student of the University of Otago, who died in 1943. The prize is awarded annually for excellence in original composition and is valued at $1,500. The award is open to all past and present students of a university in New Zealand.

Topic: Compose a duo or trio for any combination of violin, cello and piano.

The purpose of our Lupus/SLE Postdoctoral Fellowship is to provide significant financial support to emerging researchers in New Zealand to undertake Lupus/SLE research which has the potential to advance knowledge and address important knowledge gaps in the Lupus/SLE research field. Ultimately, the findings from this research will be used to help inform the support of people living with Lupus/SLE within New Zealand.
Interested applicants are invited to initially submit a three-page Expression of Interest (EOI) and a separate copy of their CV from Thursday 16 May through to Wednesday 7 August 2024. Following the Research Committee’s review of EOI in September, those who are invited to progress to stage two will subsequently need to complete a full application form which will be due by 5pm on Friday 18 October 2024.

Arthritis NZ has also made the full application template available, so applicants who are invited to proceed to the second stage have an opportunity to plan their full application well in advance. The purpose of this scholarship is to engage and support students in research in the area of arthritis under the supervision of an experienced research professional working in academia, health service provision or other types of institutional organisations. Arthritis NZ uses its research funding programme to achieve four key objectives, including to contribute to the body of research that seeks to determine the cause of arthritis, prevention of arthritis, improvement of early diagnosis, and treatment of all forms of arthritis. The Summer Scholarships are granted for small research projects with the intention of enabling students to develop valuable research skills. Projects are to be undertaken over the course of a 10–12-week period.

The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) was established in 1974. It delivers injury prevention initiatives and no-fault personal injury cover for everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand. ACC funds postgraduate research scholarships to deliver evidence that helps address complex challenges and informs longer-term investment decisions in injury prevention and sustained recovery, specifically in the context of injury compensation.

The Resource Management Law Association of New Zealand Inc (RMLA) scholarships (RMLA Masters Scholarship) are designed to encourage graduate students from a range of disciplines (law, planning, engineering, geography, science, landscape architecture, urban planning and resource management, to focus their research theses or dissertations on topics related to the application of resource management in New Zealand. The RMLA is offering one or more annual Masters scholarships for study at any University.

Each year the MacDiarmid Institute runs a four-day all expenses paid science camp for Māori and Pacific Island Year 12/13 school students, giving them a chance to spend time in a university environment studying nanoscience with MacDiarmid Institute researchers.

Soroptimist International exists to inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women. This scholarship has been established to assist women intending to pursue an educational programme to enter or re-enter the workforce or change occupation. The Soroptimists, a women’s service organisation, offer this Scholarship to women enrolled in an NZQA approved programme at a New Zealand tertiary institution.
Applicants must be 25 years or over (on 1 September in the year of application), have a proven record of academic achievement, be NZ citizens, and be prepared to participate in Soroptimist promotional activities..

In collaboration with PSANZ, Methanex New Zealand is offering two Undergraduate Scholarships. Applicants must be a 2nd year undergraduate, studying a Bachelor in Engineering (BE) in the areas of Mechanical, Electrical, Process, Control Systems or Reliability) or an applicable degree with a specialisation in Health, Safety & Environment or Process Safety Management, who are about to begin their 3rd year of their degree at a New Zealand University.
The value of the award is $5,000 for one year only.

Scholarship to enable more Māori to thrive in health related mahi. A maximum of $10,000 may be awarded to any one individual per year, and the scholarship can be used to pay for tuition fees, living costs, or study-related costs. This scholarship is open to all Māori descendants who are currently living in Aotearoa New Zealand, and currently studying or about to embark on study.

This scholarship was established by the Auckland Business Chamber in 2016, to mark Michael Barnett’s 25 years of leadership of the organisation. There are two scholarships available valued at $5,000 each. The Scholarships are open to promising communication or management students to complete their studies; or be a great communicator who could benefit from this scholarship in order to develop strong leadership skills; or have a research project, associated with leadership or communication that would benefit from this scholarship.

The Sir Hugh Kawharu Masters Scholarship for Innovation in Science is awarded by the Kawharu Foundation and comprises a grant of $10,000. The purpose of the Scholarship is to support and encourage Māori students engaged in masters level study in the sciences. The Scholarship is applicable across a broad range of science disciplines including the physical, mathematical and computational, earth, environment, marine, social, health, biological, biomedical, human, and behavioural sciences.
