The Sasakawa Fellowship Fund provides numerous scholarships available to undergraduate and postgraduate students studying, or intending to stuyd, at any New Zealand tertiary institution.
Sasakawa Fellowship Fund for Japanese Language Education (SFFJLE) Undergraduate Scholarship
For New Zealand undergraduate students studying a degree in Japanese language. The value is $5,000 per year for a tenue of up to 3 years.
Sasakawa Fellowship Fund for Japanese Language Education (SFFJLE) Postgraduate Scholarship
For New Zealand Master’s or Doctoral students undertaking research related to Japanese studies, preferably Japanese language or its teaching. The value is $15,000 for one year tenure (master’s) or $25,000 per year for three year tenure (doctoral).
The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (Sylff) Postgraduate Scholarship
For New Zealand Master’s or Doctoral students undertaking research in Humanities and Social Sciences who can demonstrate leadership qualities. The value is $31,000 for one year tenure (master’s) or $42,000 per year for three year tenure (doctoral).

This scholarship is to assist outstanding New Zealand musical performers or conductors to continue their musical development either in New Zealand or overseas.
The scholarship will be awarded for classical instrumental performance (including vocal performance) or conducting.
Applicants will be New Zealand citizens who are normally resident in New Zealand.
Applicants will have completed or are completing an honours or masters degree in musical performance (including vocal performance) or conducting at a New Zealand university, or an equivalent musical qualification.

Tararua Provincial Rural Women New Zealand offers a one-year tertiary book or research grant to assist tertiary students who are New Zealand citizens and resident in the Tararua or Central Hawkes Bay area.

Pacific Education Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship
To be eligible you must be:
- a NZ citizen, permanent resident or resident of at least three years
- of indigenous Pacific Island descent
- currently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree programme at a registered tertiary education organisation
- involved in your local community, and where possible, your Pacific community (see guidelines)

- a NZ citizen or permanent resident
- of indigenous Pacific Island descent
- currently enrolled full-time in a postgraduate degree programme
- involved in your local community, and where possible, your Pacific community (see guidelines)

The annual value of the scholarship is up to $3,000, which is awarded annually as funds permit.
Applicants must have graduated in science, agriculture or related disciplines (e.g. horticulture, veterinary science, food technology, biotechnology), and be enrolled in a postgraduate degree at a New Zealand university. Open to graduates in science, agriculture or related disciplines who are enrolled in postgraduate study in a field that is of benefit to New Zealand agriculture.

The Ministry for Primary Industry’s aim is to build capability in primary industry science, particularly where there are skills and science gaps. This scholarship is open to PhD and Masters candidates who are or will be engaged in primary industry relevant research at a New Zealand tertiary education institution. Each PhD scholarship is worth up to $50,000 and each Masters scholarship is worth up to $12,000. The successful recipients will also receive mentoring and career development support

The Roger Harris (Waihou Valley Scheme) Scholarship is dedicated to helping students whose families live in the Waihou Piako zone rating area, and study civil engineering or resource management with a particular focus on river and catchment management. It provides up to $6000 toward the cost of university fees.

Ella Yelich-O’Connor Antarctic Doctoral Scholarship
This Scholarship supports research that advances understanding, and promotes protection of Antarctica and the Southern Ocean:
- For doctoral research
- Stipend of $20,000pa over two years (total of $40,000); and
- Logistics support for one season of fieldwork in Antarctica*
New Zealand Post Antarctic Scholarship
New Zealand’s presence in Antarctica is important to our nation and New Zealand Post has a long association with the continent – ever since Sir Edmund Hillary was postmaster at Scott Base in 1957. Supporting up-and-coming New Zealand scientist through this scholarship is a key way that New Zealand Post continues its close association with the white continent.
- For master’s or doctoral research
- Stipend of $10,000 over one year; and
- Logistics support for one season of fieldwork in Antarctica*
*Subject to programme availability. Planned fieldwork must be aligned with an existing field event.

The Newton International Fellowship scheme, run by The British Academy, and the Royal Society, aims to attract the world’s best postdoctoral researchers to the UK for two years.
The objectives of the Newton International Fellowship Scheme is to ensure the UK engages with the best post-doctoral researchers, across all disciplines of physical, natural and social sciences, and the humanities. The Fellowships are open to early-stage postdoctoral researchers who do not hold UK citizenship and are working outside the UK.

- Project grants (for organisations) for afforestation projects on public land
- Research grants (for individuals) for research directly related to forests and afforestation.

The Aniva Future Pacific Nurse Leaders (AFL) programme aims to address barriers to success for Pacific nursing students in becoming New Zealand registered nurses and enrolled nurses.
We provide financial grants each semester to help meet the nursing specific costs of study, such as uniforms, vaccinations or travel for clinical placements.
We also host networking events to bring together Pacific nursing students and Pacific Nurse leaders from the community.

The Hutton Fund was established for the encouragement of research in New Zealand zoology, botany and geology. Funding will not exceed $1,000 per application. Please note that funding is not available for fees, thesis production or conference attendance.
Please note – there is no formal application form to complete when applying for a grant from the Hutton Fund. When applying to the Fund, please provide a covering letter; current CV, an outline of your proposed research, including methodology, references for literature cited and likely outcomes and a budget.

The purpose of the fund is to promote the study of the history, art, culture, physical and social anthropology of the Māori and other Polynesian peoples, particularly through the recording, survey, excavation and scientific study of prehistoric and historic sites in New Zealand and the islands of the South-west Pacific.

Every year the Tūwharetoa Settlement Trust makes three $10,000 scholarships available for registered members. The three scholarships are open to university students in their third year and above studying in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
