Grey Manuscripts
The collection consists of letters and manuscripts either collected by or produced by Sir George Grey. The material relates to his political and colonial career, both in and outside Aotearoa, and his cultural and philological interests. Included are manuscripts by Captain James Cook and Sir Joseph Banks and material about Madagascar, reta and manuscripts in Māori, and more than 3000 reta written mostly to Grey, but occasionally to other correspondents.

Michael King Collection
The University of Waikato Library has taken charge of a collection of books that formed part of the personal library of the historian, Michael King. His family generously offered part of Michael’s own personal library to the University Library to supplement the material held in Mātangireia. The 600 books are shelved on level 4 near Mātangireia Pacific.
Michael King, one of New Zealand’s foremost historians. He had close ties with Hamilton and the University of Waikato having worked for the Waikato Times and having gained his M.A. and Ph.D. at this university. He was also commissioned to write a history of the University, which he was doing when he died.
Newspapers
Copies of the New Zealand Herald from 1863 - 3 months ago are available on Microfilm. These can be retrieved from the Microfilm cabinets near the Microfilm Readers. A blue folder contains instructions for using the Microfilm Reader, but assistance is also available by contacting matangireia@waikato.ac.nz.
Raupatu Document Bank
Prepared by the Waitangi Tribunal, the Document Bank consists of copies of documents held by the National Archives of New Zealand relating to land claims in New Zealand from the 1870s to 1960s, together with statutes relating to confiscated land. These are available on Level 4 near the Māori Land Court Minute Books.
