Technology is advancing faster than ever before and our world is relying more and more on digital assets to communicate, administrate, process and create. Graduates like Steven, with a deep understanding of the digital world, will become progressively more important and sought after as we look to the challenges and opportunities our increasingly digital future is likely to bring.

Working on key projects

Steven's role as a Mobile and Web Developer for Wellington company Alphero, involves developing iPhone and iPad apps, as well as mobile websites for clients like TVNZ, State Insurance, Westpac New Zealand and Vodafone. The former Otumoetai College student built State Insurance's mobile website and also worked on the rebuild of TVNZ OnDemand's current iPhone and iPad apps.

He was offered the challenging role following an internship at Alphero as part of a Bachelor of Computing and Mathematical Sciences majoring in Computer Science at the University of Waikato. Steven chose to study Computer Science  at Waikato due to the combination of an ideal location close to Tauranga, great scholarships and the department's excellent national rankings.

Exposure from degree

He has always loved working with computers and says the degree exposed him to a variety of fascinating elements of computer science, including usability, interaction design, networking and databases, plus he had the chance to work on real-world research projects to give him a true taste of what was in store.
