For new full-time undergraduate students who have attended a R. Tucker Thompson Youth Voyage in the last five years and are intending to enrol for the first time in 2025.

The R Tucker Thompson Sail Training Trust was established in 2006 when the owners of the R Tucker Thompson Ship wanted to protect the future of the iconic vessel. The Trust was set up to benefit the people of Te Taitokerau Northland.
The R. Tucker Thompson Sail Training Trust / University of Waikato Award was created in 2024 to recognise the strong commitment of R. Tucker Thompson Sail Trust and the University of Waikato to the people of New Zealand and the advancement of education opportunities for people from Northland.

Eligibility
For students who have attended a R. Tucker Thompson Youth Voyage in the last five years who are intending to enrol full-time (120 points) in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato for the first time in 2025. Preference may be given to applicants studying topics relevant to the marine environment and/or marine industry, and who would not normally be able to consider or attend study at University.
