Current trends in theatre texts focus on the trends of playwriting in the contemporary English-language theatre: There is a trend in new writing for the theatre for verbally and emotionally shocking, but visually tidy pieces. Much new playwriting could function equally well on TV - dialogue-heavy, vicious and pacey - but what's often missing is visual ambition and theatrical flair.
