Psychological Science could have helped societies predict and address problems arising from the COVID-19 pandemic: conspiracy theories; the spread of misinformation; vaccine hesitancy; failures to remember contacts or to scan a QR code; rates of PTSD or “PreTSD,” which arises when people imagine traumatic events in their future. What created these sorts of problems, and what can we do better next time? In this course, we will investigate what the research shows, and what we still need to know so that our field is best positioned to address future global health crises.
