This paper will examine issues in Maori development, political responses and political tribal strategies that are used to pursue various agendas both domestically and internationally. Concepts of sovereignty, self-determination and indigenous rights are discussed and explored in relation to the contemporary demands of other indigenous peoples that include Aboriginal, First Nations, American Indian and others.
