The paper draws on research in Philosophy and Psychology to examine key questions about character and virtue education: Which traits are virtues? What makes a trait a virtue (or a vice)? Are the virtues necessary for a happy life? What is the role of emotion and desire in moral life? How can we become more virtuous? (and: Can we become more virtuous?) Is our behaviour influenced by situational factors? What can we learn from a virtuous role model?
