This paper will explore important aspects of indigenous governance through the research findings of the Nation Building and Maori Development Research Project. This also includes an analysis of international indigenous models of governance, research findings of the Harvard Project on Indian Economic Development, a review of the governance literature, and identifies key characteristics for an indigenous model of governance.
