Video consultations
Student Learning offers video consultations to NET or BLK students, or enrolled in TGA papers, (or students studying at a distance who cannot otherwise come on campus). We use Zoom, because it is available and supported by the University of Waikato, Information Technology Service (ITS). You can book a distance consultation request using the consultation request form below.
Written comments on draft
Student Learning uses Turnitin Feedback Studio to provide comments on your assignment draft.
When you request this service, you receive a link from the Student Learning administrator to our Moodle paper (Distance Service with Student Learning), and instructions for uploading your assignment. She assigns your request to a Student Learning tutor, who provides feedback using the Turnitin (Tii) Feedback Studio tool. The Moodle interface sends you notification when your feedback is waiting for you to collect.
Things to note about this service:
- You can check your similarity details and receive feedback before submitting your assignment for grading without fear that Tii will remember your assignment. Student Learning has turned off the setting that saves your assignment to a repository, so Tii will not recognise your text later when you submit it to your lecturer for grading.
- Because Tii checks your assignment against other source material, there might be a time delay of 48 hours before your comment may be ready to collect (although, it sometimes might be longer depending on how busy we are at Student Learning). This means that you need to calculate carefully when preparing your assignment to give yourself enough time to submit it, to wait for your comment, and possibly edit your work in response to our feedback.
