Sexual health
Sexual health is just as important as physical health. Here at Student Health Service we provide sexual health checks, as well as a range of contraceptives and birth control methods.
FAST checks
FAST checks are free accessible self testing sexual health checks for NZ resident students enrolled with this practice. This basic DIY test, tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea.
No appointment is required, simply ask at the Student Health Service reception for a FAST test.
FAST checks are not suitable if you have symptoms such as; abnormal bleeding, discharge, lumps, sores, rash, itch or pain or if you have had sexual contact with someone who has an infection.
If you want or need a comprehensive sexual health check, please phone and ask for a nurse to phone you back.
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are common and if untreated can lead to serious complications such as infertility. It is really important to get regular check ups.
We offer comprehensive sexual health checks at our Student Health Clinic. Please contact us by phone or come into to book an appointment. This check may involve some swabs (which can often be self-taken), a urine test and possibly a blood test.
We recommend having a test at least annually and each time you change partners. This is recommended even if you do not have any symptoms.
For more information visit Just the Facts website on STIs and testing.
Contraception and birth control
We are able to provide you with information and education around available contraception choices.
