Female computer science and software engineering students can apply for a new scholarship funded by Endace.
A new scholarship set to support women in computer science and software engineering has been established at the University of Waikato, and is being funded by leading packet capture technology firm Endace.
Endace is a global authority on packet capture technology, the practice of capturing and analysing network data, and works with world-leading telcos and mobile carriers, banks and financial traders, media companies, healthcare organisations, and government and military to help them manage their critical data networks.
Endace was spun out of research conducted at the University of Waikato more than 20 years ago, and the company is now returning to its roots by funding two undergraduate scholarships, worth $10,000 each, to support women studying computer science or software engineering. Awarded annually, each scholarship will also provide work experience opportunities for the successful candidates.
Endace CEO Stuart Wilson says the scholarships recognise the valuable contributions women can make in the technology industry.
“The Women in Technology Scholarship is one of the ways Endace is working to support and encourage women. We are committed to empowering women in tech to help create a more balanced and innovative workforce.”
The scholarships are part of a range of ongoing initiatives Endace is undertaking to encourage women into the technology sector.
University of Waikato Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Bryony James, also a professor in engineering, welcomes the support from Endace.
“Industry support is vital for helping the next generation of students, and in this case, particularly women. These students will go on to help society through their problem-solving and acquired technology expertise, and we are very grateful for the support of Endace to help nurture female tech talent in this way.”
Students who wish to apply for the Endace Women in Technology Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
- Identify as female in the personal details listed in the applicant’s MyWaikato Portal
- Be studying full-time towards a Bachelor of Computer Science, a Bachelor of Computer Science with Honours, or a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours, majoring in Software Engineering
- Have made, or show strong potential to make, an impact on women in technology, and intend to pursue a career in New Zealand
