Nga Tūmanakotanga invites you to register now for the fifth symposium.

Interpersonal aggression is a global concern and a significant cause of death around the world. In prisons, the human, financial, and health burden of violence is a significant social issue. The aims of Nga Tūmanakotanga are to understand and decrease physical, sexual, psychological and structural harm and improve safety and wellbeing for those who reside and work in prison settings in Aotearoa New Zealand.

The theme of this year's symposium is ‘Ko Tū koe? Ko Rongo koe?’  Me titiro koe ki te tīmatatanga, ā, ka kite ai tātou te mutunga. This translates to ‘Are you in the state of Tūmatauenga (God of war) or Rongomātane (God of peace)?’ You must understand the beginning if you wish to see the end.

This fifth symposium draws together a range of perspectives from across the ‘prison ecology’ and honours local and international voices from industry, academia and community to illuminate the causes and control of violence in New Zealand's prison spaces.

This is a free event which is open to the public.  However this symposium will be discussing interpersonal aggression between adults, hence attendees should use their discretion as to the appropriateness of the content.  We suggest only those 18 or older should register for this symposium.
