Health Promotion Subject regulations
Health Promotion uses a multidisciplinary approach to understanding hauora as practice, and to examine approaches that contribute to a health system which can revitalise the mana of our communities by promoting health and reducing health inequities. Health Promotion embraces integrative knowledge of theories and analytical approaches (across psychology, health communication, sociology, epidemiology, and Māori and indigenous studies) to understand, critique and design health initiatives, policies, practices, interventions and their outcomes.
Health Promotion is available as a first major for the Bachelor of Health (BHealth). Health Promotion may also be included as a second major or minor in other undergraduate degrees, subject to approval of the Division in which the student is enrolled.
To complete Health Promotion as a single major for the BHealth, students must gain 135 points from the papers listed for Health Promotion, including 105 points above 100 level, and 45 points above 200 level. Students must complete BIOMD101, HTHPR101, HTHPR201, HTHPR202, HTHPR203, PUBRL202, HTHPR301, HTHPR320; and 15 points from PUBRL301 or SOCPY302.
To complete Health Promotion as part of a double major for the BHealth or other undergraduate degree, students must gain 120 points from papers listed for Health Promotion, including 90 points above 100 level, and 45 points above 200 level. Students must complete BIOMD101, HTHPR101, HTHPR201, PUBRL202, HELTH201; HTHPR320, HTHPR301; and 15 points from PUBRL301 or SOCPY302.
To complete a minor in Health Promotion, students must complete 60 points from the papers listed for the Health Promotion major, including at least 30 points above 100 level.
Health Promotion is also available as a subject in the Certificate in Health and Wellbeing. To complete the Certificate in Health and Wellbeing in Health Promotion, students must complete a minimum of 120 points at 100 level or higher including HTHPR101, BIOMD101, HELTH102, HELTH120 and at least 30 points from BIOEB101, CHEMY100, HMDEV100, HPSCI101, MAORI150, PSYCH100, SDCOA101, SDCOA102.
