Summer Research Scholarship
Frustrated with the technological struggles she saw while growing up on a farm in Te Awamutu, and the enthusiasm and support of the IT teachers at Sacred Heart Girls' College in Hamilton, Laura Bocock decided to enrol in a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Computer Science at the University of Waikato.
Initially it was a case of location, location, location when deciding to attend the University of Waikato but while the campus, cafes and facilities were a definite plus, the main things Laura enjoyed about the University of Waikato was the enthusiasm of the lecturers in their speciality areas and their willingness to engage with students.
It was a summer research scholarship that sparked her interest in continuous improvement. This lead to her honours dissertation which then culminated in her publication entitled “There’s Something About Lean” which was presented at Agile 2011.
Laura is now a Business Improvement Specialist for Orion Health and has worked for them for five years. She enjoys making positive change within the company, working with anybody and everybody to help Orion Health to continuously improve. Laura spends her day training and mentoring others in concepts and tools for change leadership and improvement. She leads initiatives that are focused on enabling people and Orion Health to reach their goals.
