She’s only been in New Zealand for four months, but Amanjot Kaur already considers Hamilton home. While completing her Master of Cyber Security at the University of Waikato, Amanjot has developed a new perspective on the world, made a group of life-long friends, and learnt more than she could have ever imagined – both professionally and personally.
When Amanjot made the decision to pursue higher education, she knew she wanted to push her boundaries. She chose to study at the University of Waikato for its safe, welcoming culture and positive reputation in the cyber security industry.
“Hamilton has surprised me a lot, but only in good ways! The people are friendly, the scenery is beautiful, and the facilities at the University are amazing – it has everything you need!”
She enjoys New Zealand’s laid-back culture, and quickly made friends with a wide range of domestic and international students.
“The University has students from every corner of the world under one umbrella. I’ve loved meeting a wide range of people and learning about different cultures,” she says.
Amanjot wanted practical exposure and has not been disappointed. She has embraced the practical aspects of Waikato’s cyber security course and credits her newfound understanding of cyber security concepts to the hands-on lectures offered at the University.
“I came to Waikato to gain practical exposure and I have not been disappointed. I’ve have learnt a lot of new skills here. Each and every assignment has been so helpful in improving my knowledge and I am so much more confident in my own abilities now.”
Having already explored much of Hamilton, Amanjot is looking forward to travelling the rest of the country. She already has plans to come back, and is hoping to complete her PhD at the University of Waikato.
“I don’t know what I will miss most about Hamilton,” she says. “The university atmosphere, the culture, my friends… I love it all! I want to come back and live here one day!”
