This paper introduces students to a range of international issues, philosophies, theoretical underpinnings and wider influences on childhoods. The paper explores local and global perspectives and influences on early childhood teaching and learning. It examines the impact of complex social, historical, political and cultural contexts on curriculum development, and on understandings and provision of early childhood care and education in Aotearoa New Zealand.
