This paper critically engages with contemporary issues in the sociology of health and illness. It builds on SOCY304 and provides for a more substantive consideration of selected issues in this area of growing sociological concern. The paper will critically focus on inter alia both national and global health issues, the role of the media and the internet in relation to health and illness, the changing nature of medicine, the global pharmaceutical industry, the environment and current illness concerns in relation to lifestyle and health policy.
