This paper provides an introduction to e-commerce within the context of an economy that is increasingly knowledge-driven. Relevant societal, business and technical trends are highlighted and an introduction is made to the development and use of dynamic, data-driven applications and intelligent devices in the electronic business environment. Students are involved in a major group-based project to design and build a prototype data-driven company website.
