HIST106

This paper considers the interaction of war and society and asks how war reflect the societies and cultures that wage them. This notion is tested by examining a number of case studies from across history and around the globe. Students explore the historical contexts of these conflicts, the experiences of those impacted by them, and questions of how forces such as tactics and weaponry, state structures and finance, technological classes between different cultures and social systems have shaped the face of war. With 2014 marking the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War means this paper offers an opportune chance to contemplate the relationship between war and society.
