This paper provides students with a knowledge and working experience of a number of modern laboratory techniques that help researchers understand the physiology of farmed organisms to inform and innovate husbandry practise. This has direct application to maintaining welfare standards and improving overall industry performance. This paper will be of particular importance to biology students who have an interest in post graduate studies or a career in research
