With Auto-create, you can specify the number of groups or number of students per group. Moodle creates the groups and populates them automatically.
1. Go to your Moodle paper, then select Participants from the tabs under the paper title.
2. Select Groups from the dropdown menu.
3. At the bottom left of the screen, select Auto-create groups.
4. In Naming scheme, enter Groups @ to create groups with names containing letters.
Enter Groups # to create groups with names containing numbers.
5. Select Auto create based on to either Number of groups or number of Members per group.
6. Enter a Group/member count according to the number of groups or members per group that you would like.
7. To include only students in your groups, set Select members with role to Student. The default role is Student. If you would like other roles included in groups, select them from the drop-down menu.
8. You can Allocate members to groups Randomly, Alphabetically by first or last name, or ID number. The default is Randomly.
Note: If you wish to make your last group bigger rather than smaller, tick Prevent last small group.
9. If you are going to have more than one Grouping (set) of groups in your Moodle paper (e.g. students will be grouped differently for forums and tutorials), select Grouping, then in the Grouping of auto-created groups drop-down menu choose an existing grouping or select New grouping.
10. If creating a New grouping, add a Grouping name.
11. Finally, select Preview to preview your groups or Submit to save your groups.
