Te Ngira welcomed a delegation visit of the First Nations and Aboriginal Primary Care Network
Monday 24 February 2025, led by Dr Michael Dumont.
The Network is a partnership of 8 Indigenous owned and operated primary care centres across unceded Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh and Tla'amin territory (Metro Vancouver) and includes urban centres. They collectively serve 50% of Indigenous Peoples in the BC area. Dr Dumont is the inaugural chair of what is a brand new collective. The delegation includes community people, health managers and elders.
Their main kaupapa is to learn more about Indigenous-developed clinical data systems and electronic medical records (with an aim to improve data sovereignty practices, develop a more strength- and wellness-based approach to medical charting, and better support the cultural providers on their clinical teams with clinical record-keeping).
Professor Tahu Kukutai and Dr Polly Atatoa Carr gave presentations on Māori Data Sovereignty and Population Health Equity and Vanessa Clarke discussed The Data Sovereignty mahi of Ngati Tiipa. It is the beginning of what we envisage to be ongoing collaborative engagement with this Network.
