Vietnam Social Security: Eight-week Education Programme

Between 30 September and 22 November 2019, Waikato Management School and University of Waikato College hosted a group of 25 senior executives from VSS.

The programme was designed to improve subject knowledge related to Social Insurance, Health Insurance, Financial Management, Technology Management and Governance and to enhance English language competency.

The programme comprised of the following four modules, each running over two weeks:

  • Principles of Social Security and Social Insurance Module
  • Performance and Technology Management
  • Financial Management
  • Governance

The programme also included official visits to Wellington and Tauranga, allowing some sightseeing, as well as a trip to the University of Waikato - Tauranga Campus. In addition, guest speakers from Ministries and Social Security offices shared their work experiences with the participants.

Vietnam Programme 165: Capacity Building on Leadership, Public Management and Public Services at the District Level

In August 2019, NZ Institute for Business Research successfully completed a 2-week executive training programme on “Capacity Building on Leadership, Public Management and Public Services at the District Level” for senior Local Government Officials from Vietnam.

The programme was specifically designed to build  better understanding of New Zealand policies and institutions and contemporary global issues, with a key focus on informed decision-making.

Guest speakers from Hamilton City Council, Waikato Regional Council, Waikato Chamber of Commerce, Priority One, and Bay of Plenty shared their experiences with the participants and an opportunity to visit government offices and engage with political leaders was a highlight in the programme.

Participants benefited from various interactive sessions held by University of Waikato Professors and completed various projects designed on important policy challenges that Vietnam Government are currently facing.

Vietnam Social Security: Two Week Educational Programme

The University of Waikato welcomed fifteen executives of Vietnam Social Security who took part in a two-week Executive Educational Programme between 27 May and 9 June 2019.

Professor Frank Scrimgeour arranged the official visit and the training programme was mainly facilitated by Dwayne Hansen.

The programme objective is to build English Language speaking ability, improve soft skills, public speaking and to build confidence in delivering presentations in English. Participants explored various themes relating to communication, presentation and self-confidence in formal sessions and informal interactive group exercises and case studies.

The programme included a Māori cultural workshop conducted by Pauline Grey as well as a visit to the newly built Waikato University’s Tauranga Campus where they interacted with Priority One Team.

Executive Training Programmes – 2017

Training Plan for Vietnam Social Security of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

In 2017, The New Zealand Institute for Business Research (NZIBR) successfully completed a training programme for the staff members of Vietnam Social Security of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (VSS). The focus of this programme was to improve subject knowledge related to social insurance, financial management, technology management and governance and to enhance English language competency. The training to participants was provided by the experienced faculty members of the University of Waikato. The programme consists of four subject modules and a component of English.

The guest speakers from Alandale Lifecare Limited, Ministry of Social Development and Life Unlimited were invited to share their experience with the participants. During the programme, site visits were made to NZ Super Fund, Ministry of Social Development, the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) and the Vietnamese embassy.

Enhancing Leadership Capacity in Economic Management

In 2017, The New Zealand Institute for Business Research (NZIBR) successfully completed an executive education programme "Enhancing Leadership Capacity in Economic Management". The programme was designed to support the professional development of Provincial leaders of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The focus of this programme was to improve knowledge and skills to enhance decision-making. It integrated key concepts of economics, policy development, monitoring and accountability as a robust framework assisting leaders and officials to promote efficient and effective management.  The programme involved interactive engagement with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Frank Scrimgeour, Professor Stuart Locke, political leaders and officials and visits to Government offices to engage with their leaders. Experienced New Zealand Politicians (Rt Hon James Bolger and Hon Andrew King) supported by experienced officials well versed in economic leadership interacted with participants.

The guest speakers from Hamilton City Council, Waikato Regional Council, Waikato District Council and Ministry of Primary Industries were invited to share their experience with the participants. During the programme, site visits were made to Auckland Transport, Research & Innovation Unit of Waikato University in Auckland, Destination Rotorua, the Vietnamese embassy, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, Local Government New Zealand and the New Zealand Treasury.
