About this opportunity
Applications are invited for a PhD scholarship opportunity in the Waikato Centre for Advanced Materials and Manufacturing at the School of Engineering, University of Waikato, New Zealand. This project is funded by Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Endeavour Fund, and will investigate how the composition/structure affect the designed high entropy alloys’ hydrogen absorption/desorption behavior and determine the underlying mechanisms, to achieve a detailed atomic-level understanding of the hydrogenation/dehydrogenation process in high entropy alloys. This helps realise fine-tuning the high entropy alloy’s composition/structure to maximise the alloy’s hydrogen storage performance, enabling hydrogen use in transportation and stationary energy storage applications. The successful applicant should be eligible to enrol at the University of Waikato (please check PhD enrolment requirements).
Candidates should hold a master’s degree in a relevant subject such as Materials Science, Materials and Process Engineering or an associated discipline. The candidates should also have experience in first-principles computational simulation research, together with the ability to analyse, develop and solve open-ended research problems.
Expected starting date: 1 June 2024 (or sooner)
