The University of Waikato has introduced new qualifications, researchers are at the cutting edge of study and flexible-learning has made additional study manageable. In addition, the Waikato Alumni Scholarship supports returning alumni who have been visible advocates for the University and have made a significant contribution to the community.
“This scholarship is one way the University nurtures the university-alumni lifelong relationship and helps recipients further their career and study goals,” says Peta Goldsworthy, Director of Development and Alumni Relations. “It’s wonderful to have our alumni return to upskill with additional qualifications.”
Returning alumni could enrol in a new field of study at undergraduate level or could extend previous learning with graduate, postgraduate or higher degree work. The University provides a huge choice of programmes, including popular one-year courses like the Diploma in Business and the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching. Alumni looking for something innovative might consider the new Bachelor of Climate Change or the first-of-its-kind Master of Cyber Security.
The prospect for further study is something that 85% of surveyed recent alumni expressed a desire to do.
“Returning alumni will be surprised at how many graduates are studying with us,” says Peta. “At graduation last year more than 25% of the qualifications were at graduate, postgraduate or higher degree level.”
The alumni scholarship was originally established by the now-dissolved University of Waikato Alumni Association and is looked after by the University of Waikato Foundation. The scholarship is for $10,000 per year and is awarded to one or two applicants (split evenly between recipients). It can be used towards tuition fees or course-related costs and is tenured for a maximum of one year.
Applicants for the scholarship should be 25 years old or older and have not studied at the University in the past two calendar years and are intending to enrol either full or part-time starting in A Trimester 2022. See the website for study choices and scholarship regulations. Applications close 1 February 2022.
