It is the first review of parking at the University in a decade and along with a new system for staff to streamline parking services, it will see an increase in parking fees for students, staff and visitors to the University’s Hamilton campus.
The University has not raised parking fees in a decade and has held off making any fee changes for the past couple of years to minimise the impact on students and staff during the Covid recovery.
Starting February 1, 2025, parking fees will be increased as follows:

Even with the increases Hamilton campus parking will remain significantly cheaper than other paid parking sites across Hamilton city and at tertiary institutions around New Zealand.
General parking used by students, staff and visitors will continue using the PayMyPark system, with fee increases reflected from 1 February 2025.
The University’s parking fees go towards providing services and the maintenance and monitoring of car parking and facilities. Recently this has included the installation of CCTV cameras in car parks at Gates 1, 2B and 3B for security purposes.
Parking monitoring and enforcement
As part of the new system, enforcement of parking will move to a digital system where number plates will be digitally checked by Unisafe staff through the PayMyPark app. Enforcement has been inconsistent in recent years so it does mean that people who have not paid for parking will receive an initial warning, followed by wheel clamping and a fine for clamp removal.
Unisafe is also now enforcing visitor parking by checking licence plates against those registered to parks in Resource Booker.
