Welcome to Orientation!
Orientation is the time for new students to get acquainted with the University! Find out where things are, how to use our systems, what spaces are available for you to enjoy and who will support you during your time studying with us.
Getting started with Moodle
Moodle is the primary online learning environment at the University of Waikato. Discover helpful tips and instructions for accessing and using Moodle.
There is also an Orientation self-enrol online Study Smart Moodle to set you up for success in your first year at Waikato.
What to expect
Re-Orientation will run from the 1st - 5th July 2024 and is specifically designed for new students to help you settle into University study. Essential presentations will be hosted on campus so that you get all the information and support you need for your first year of study, as well as plenty of fun activities throughout the week.
Disorientation will run from the 8th - 12th July 2024 of Orientation. Hosted by the Waikato Students’ Union, Disorientation is meant for both current students and new students to have fun and make connections. There will be activities, competitions and prizes up for grabs.

Re-Orientation – Hamilton 2024

Event: New student Pōwhiri
Join us at the wharenui in our new state-of-the-art facility, The Pā, to be formally welcomed to start your University journey. There will be refreshments served afterwards and all whānau are welcome.
A pōwhiri is a welcome ceremony conducted in accordance with tikanga Māori (Māori protocols and customs). The pōwhiri contains multiple interlocking rituals for both men and women. You can view a good guide of what you will see and experience as part of the ceremony by watching this Guide to the Unitec Pōwwhiri on YouTube.

Kickstart your akoranga, your studies, by connecting with whānau that will enhance your student experience. Being part of the Māori community on campus is about making epic memories, lifelong friendships, developing yourself personally and professionally, and learning sets of skills that will equip you for your studies and beyond. Event: Study Smart: Academic Information
Set yourself up for academic success with our Study Smart session. Across five activities, learn about essential study skills, key systems, and the services available to help you succeed, including how to: - use key learning technologies like Moodle; - manage your time; - study efficiently and effectively; - use the Library's online and print resources; and - make the best use of lectures, tutorials and labs.
There is also a self-enrol online Study Smart Moodle shell that you can complete in your own time.

Event: Bachelor of Health and Bachelor of Sport & Human Performance Orientation
Learn more about you can expect from your first trimester of study in the Bachelor of Health or Bachelor of Sport and Human Performance programme, meet other new students and connect with staff. Lunch will be provided.

Tauranga Orientation - Tuesday 2 July 2024
New student welcome & morning tea.
Nau mai, haere mai. Your University of Waikato Tauranga journey starts here. We warmly invite you to gather in The Hub on Level 1 before being welcomed by the University's kaumātua and after, invited to enjoy some morning tea.
Please bring your own water bottle for the day. Filtered water stations are available on campus.

Moodle is our online learning space; all your papers and supporting materials can be found here. Come along to find out what it is, how to use it, how to navigate the Library website and find quality academic resources for assignments. We'll discuss time management, academic integrity, and where to find referencing help and academic learning support.
