Graduates will be able to:
- Explain the role and use of money and digital currencies in the 20th and 21st centuries and predict future scenarios and their implications.
- Describe and critique how blockchain technologies are used in financial services and related sectors; and interact with the traditional banking and finance sectors.
- Describe and evaluate strategies for users of cryptocurrencies and fintech and evaluate approaches to systemic risk associated with cryptocurrencies, trading practices including algorithmic trading, and fintech.
- Describe and analyse the ecosystem, participants, and governance of the finance system - including traditional and new currencies and financial instruments.
- Describe and evaluate cybersecurity practices and policies in fintech and the banking sector.
- Describe ethical challenges associated with fintech and approaches to sustaining the ethical foundations of the sector.
- Explain relevant ethical principles and their application by financial professionals and institutions within New Zealand and globally, within the context of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
- Describe and evaluate the role of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, the Financial Markets Authority, and the relevant professional organisations in sustaining a credible and ethical financial system.
- Predict monetary policy decisions and their impact on the financial sector and the wider economy.
- Describe and evaluate the regulation of traditional and new institutions and currencies including priority setting and the practice of financial regulation.
- Describe and evaluate alternative approaches to impact investment.
- Evaluate how crypto assets are used in fintech and investment.
