Regulations for the Degree of Master of Clinical Practice (Midwifery) (MClinPrac(Midwifery))

  1. The Personal Programmes of Study Regulations apply in these regulations.

Admission

  1. Candidates for the Degree must
    1. have either qualified for the award of a Bachelors degree of the University of Waikato, with at least a B grade average across the 300 level papers or for a qualification considered by the Academic Board to be equivalent, and
    2. have satisfied the prerequisites for postgraduate study in the subject(s) being presented for the Degree, at levels considered appropriate by the Academic Board, and
    3. be approved through a selection process determined by the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Health, or delegated authority, including a police vetting check, to ensure that they meet the criteria for admission to register as midwives as defined by the University and the and the Midwifery Council of New Zealand. This includes, but is not limited to, providing proof of vaccination status and first aid training, and
    4. be registered with one of the professions regulated under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2003 and be in good standing with the relevant registration body.
  2. In exceptional circumstances, based on academic merit or relevant experience, candidates who do not meet the requirements of Section 2 of these regulations may be considered for admission subject to approval by the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and the completion of any qualifying papers the Academic Board may prescribe which must be completed either prior to or concurrently.

Requirements for the Degree

  1. The normal minimum period of enrolment for completion of the Degree is two academic years.
  2. Candidates must complete the requirements for the Degree within four years of commencing their first enrolment in the Degree.
  3. Candidates must enrol in the Division of Health and follow an approved programme of study.
  4. Candidates must gain 240 points at 500 level consisting of MIDWF571, MIDWF572, MIDWF573, MIDWF574, MIDWF575, MIDWF576, MIDWF581, MIDWF582, MIDWF583, MIDWF584 and MIDWF585.

Progression Requirements for the Degree

  1. If a candidate fails a paper or papers, they may repeat the paper on one occasion only. A candidate who fails a compulsory paper on more than one occasion will not be permitted to proceed with the Degree.
  2. If a candidate is not enrolled in the Degree for a period of more than three consecutive months, they must be approved through a re-enrolment process determined by the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Health or delegated authority, in accordance with requirements as defined by the University and the Midwifery Council of New Zealand. Re-enrolment may be subject to the completion of additional requirements.

Variations

  1. The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Division or delegated authority may vary or waive these regulations in individual cases.
