Join us for a thought-provoking lecture exploring the evolution and future of law, presented by Dr Trevor Daya-Winterbottom.

This lecture will delve into four pivotal themes: the influence of tradition on our legal system, the innovative capacity of law across historical industrial revolutions, recent advancements in environmental law with a focus on climate litigation, and future implications for legal education amidst global ethical challenges and technological advancements.

Dr Trevor Daya-Winterbottom is an esteemed Professor of Law at Te Piringa Faculty of Law, University of Waikato, where he also serves as the Associate Dean of Research for Te Wānanga o Ngā Kete and is the Director of the Centre for Environmental, Resources and Energy Law. He holds a BA (Hons) in Law from Liverpool John Moores University and an MA in Environmental Law from De Montfort University. His PhD from Anglia Ruskin University focused on environmental regulation and reform.

Dr Daya-Winterbottom is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, the Royal Geographical Society, and a Member of the Royal Society of New Zealand. His teaching, research, and consultancy focus on environmental law and public law. He is a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute and a Member of various prestigious international legal associations, including the International Law Association and the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law.

Internationally, he represents New Zealand on the ILA Committee on Protection of People at Sea and was the first New Zealand-based academic to serve as the Deputy Chair of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law.

Before joining Te Piringa Faculty of Law in 2003, Dr Daya-Winterbottom held various positions in New Zealand and the UK, including roles with Chapman Tripp, the Department of Conservation, Waitakere City Council, Cambridge City Council, and the University of Cambridge.

This 45-minute public lecture will be held at the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, starting at 5.45pm. Opus Bar will be open from 5pm.

Free parking is available on campus via Gate 2B, Knighton Road, Hamilton from 4.30pm.
